Service Features

The Contact Center is not just a call-center, but a complex service that combines different contact tools: the tool free number 800 840 840 and the online form "Write to the Contact Center", the certified email (PEC), the traditional fax and ordinary mail. From October 2020 with Pedius app, also deaf people can autonomously contact the toll-free number. 

The service is active from Monday to Friday, from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Outside this period and on weekends you can leave a message in the voice mail. In emergency or crisis situations, the service can be gradually extended to full coverage within 24 hours, seven days a week, if necessary. It is possible call the Contact Center of the Department from abroad through the number 0039 0662289766. This service is chargeable

The Contact Center is an information service for citizens and does not substitute traditional emergency numbers (e.g.. 115, 112, 113, 118, etc).

Since October 1, 2020, the Contact Center Service has been entrusted to the Integrated Social Cooperative aCapo, which is also responsible for the processing of personal data. 800 840 840  is a toll-free number - also from mobile phones. Service is active from 8:00 AM to 20:00 PM from Monday to Saturday.

When the service is closed, it is possible to leave a message or contact details on the voicemail so as to be recalled. The box is active even when all operators are busy.

During emergency situations the contact center can be active every day with an extension of opening hours up to 24h. Extensions of opening hours will be published on this website.

To send an email to the Contact Center is possible insert the request in the online form "Write to the Contact Center", specyfing name and surname. mail address and phone number to be re-called.

All the requests are directly managed by Contact Center operators - that answer within days - or sent to competent departments requiring more time.

Citizens can use the pec channel both to communicate with the Department's Contact Center and to send formal requests to the offices (pursuant to Article 65 of the Digital Administration Code).

Deaf people can also contact the toll-free number 800840840 autonomously. Since October 2020, by downloading the Pedius App, from Google Play and App store. The user can access for free the Contact Center service of the Department of Civil Protection and ask information to a telephone operator.

It works as follow: 

  • the deaf person can write their request (or even communicate it by voice) through this App;
  • a synthetic voice will read the content of the message to the telephone operator who will answer in real time to the user;
  • the user will receive, via the App, a written answer.
