Pope Francis: the day of the funeral
After the ceremony, a funeral procession will move from St. Peter's to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major
The funeral of the Holy Father is taking place today, April 26, at 10 AM on the parvis of St. Peter's Basilica, attended by thousands of faithful and numerous leaders and representatives from around the world.
At the end of the ceremony, the funeral procession will leave St. Peter's through the Perugino Gate and proceed at a walking pace to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the location chosen by Pope Francis for his burial. The burial ceremony will be conducted privately. The procession will follow a 6 km route as indicated by the police, passing through Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Venezia, Via dei Fori Imperiali, the Colosseum, Via Labicana, and Via Merulana. Members of the faithful may only follow the procession from behind barriers.
The commitment of the National Civil Protection Service is at an all-time high to ensure smooth mobility, effective reception, and assistance—including health care—for the population during this event. Over 3,000 civil protection volunteers are actively supporting the community during this time, and today, they will also be stationed along the route of the funeral procession.
The Civil Protection Department, in collaboration with the Prefect of Rome, the Government Commissioner for the Jubilee, the President of the Lazio Region, and the Mayor of Rome, has developed an interactive map. This map provides essential information regarding access gates, Advanced Medical Posts for medical assistance, large screens to view the ceremony, locations of chemical toilets in the area and the route of the funeral procession.

Los funerales del Santo Padre se celebran hoy, 26 de abril, a las 10:00 horas, en el atrio de la Basílica de San Pedro, en presencia de miles de fieles y numerosos líderes y representantes de todo el mundo.
Al término de la ceremonia, el cortejo fúnebre partirá de San Pedro a través de la Puerta del Perugino y avanzará a paso lento hasta la Basílica de Santa María la Mayor, lugar elegido por el Papa Francisco para su sepultura. La ceremonia de inhumación se llevará a cabo en privado. La procesión seguirá un recorrido de 6 km definido por la Policía de Roma, que atravesará Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Piazza Venezia, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Coliseo, Via Labicana y Via Merulana. Los fieles podrán seguir la procesión únicamente desde detrás de las barreras de seguridad.
Hoy más que nunca, el compromiso del Servicio Nacional de Protección Civil es máximo para garantizar el desarrollo de todas las actividades relacionadas con la movilidad, la acogida y la asistencia —incluida la sanitaria— de la población, con motivo de este acontecimiento de gran relevancia. Más de 3.000 voluntarios de protección civil continúan prestando apoyo a la comunidad de fieles y también estarán desplegados hoy a lo largo del recorrido del cortejo.
El Departamento de Protección Civil, encargado de coordinar dichas actividades, actúa en estrecha colaboración con el Prefecto de Roma, el Comisario del Gobierno para el Jubileo, el Presidente de la Región del Lacio y el Alcalde de Roma. Conjuntamente, han elaborado un mapa interactivo con información útil sobre puntos de acceso, Puestos Médicos Avanzados que garantizan asistencia sanitaria, pantallas gigantes para seguir la ceremonia, aseos químicos distribuidos en el área y el recorrido del cortejo fúnebre.
